MLK Weekend of Service 2017
Save the Date! Food Bank for New York City’s MLK Weekend of Service will take place Friday, January 13th – Monday, January 16th. Now in its 4th consecutive year, Food Bank will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy with a weekend of service, conducting a mass renovation of Bright Temple Church in Hunts Point to create a functional soup kitchen, as well as expanding the food storage capacity of the existing pantry. As the community’s only soup kitchen, this will allow many families to have a hot meal. To complete this renovation, Food Bank needs YOU on any days you would like to participate from Friday, January 13th through Monday January 16th. Projects will include painting, patchwork, gardening, arts and crafts, among others. Volunteer assignments will be made based on needs and availability. Specific volunteer assignments with assigned tasks and shifts times will be appointed via email by Wednesday, January 11th. Assigned shifts vary, but will be 3-6 hours. Let us commemorate Martin Luther King’s legacy of service by empowering this community in Hunts Point! Join us by clicking "Express Interest" below!
