MLK Weekend of Service 2017
Food Bank For NYC will be commemorating MLK’s legacy by helping to build the very first soup kitchen in the Hunts Point neighborhood in the Bronx at Bright Temple Church. Hunts Point is New York’s poorest congressional district. For MLK weekend, Food Bank For NYC will conduct a mass renovation of Bright Temple creating a functional kitchen and dining room, as well as expanding the pantry space to increase the food storage capacity of the Church. This is a very exciting project that will help so many people living in poverty and struggling with food insecurity! We need volunteers from Saturday January 14th through Monday January 16th to assist with the following (this is not an all-inclusive list): · Plastering walls · Putting in sheet rock · Installing tiles · Laying down pavers/walkway · Trash Removal · Painting prep (taping) & Painting This project will create a lasting impact on the Hunts Point community! Come join us for this historic weekend!
