SNAP Gap Pop-Up Distributions
Join us for a special series of pop-up food distributions at local schools to help fill the SNAP Gap in the aftermath of the government shutdown.
We urgently need volunteers to help support these distributions by handing out produce and other food products to clients, replenishing product at our table stations throughout the day, helping to direct crowd flow, and assisting with setup and breakdown.
During the government shutdown, February SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) benefits were disbursed early, forcing a benefit that normally covers two weeks of meals to cover six weeks. This "SNAP Gap" will impact our most vulnerable neighbors and our city's already strained emergency food network.
New York City schools will be out of session for winter break from Feb 18-22, and the thousands of children and families that rely on free school breakfast and lunch will be without these meals. Help us bring extra meals to local schools in some of the neighborhoods where this "SNAP Gap" is greatest.
