2020 MLK Day Repack

Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by joining us for a Weekend of Service.

Over MLK Day Weekend, Food Bank For New York City will welcome volunteers to our Warehouse & Distribution Center in the Bronx, uniting in an effort to repack 50,000 pounds of donated food to be distributed to those in need across New York City.

Get ready to sort, pack, box, weigh, and label to get these much-needed food items out the door to fellow New Yorkers.

Individuals, groups (up to 40 participants), and families (including kids age 5+) are welcome!

  • WHERE: This project will take place at our Warehouse at 355 Food Center Drive, Building #359 in Hunts Point in the Bronx (6 train to Hunts Point, then Bx6 to Food Center Drive/Hunts Point Market.) Parking is available on site at Hunts Point Market for a $3 cash fee per private vehicle or $8 fee per bus. We encourage participants to carpool or take public transit.

  • WHO: Volunteers age 5 and up are welcome. Minors age 5-12 must be accompanied by an adult. Minors age 13-17 may attend independently with a copy of Food Bank's youth volunteer waiver completed in advance by a parent/guardian.

  • GROUPS: For this event, we can accommodate school or community groups up to a max of 40 participants. If you are a corporate group or a larger community group, email Jessica Presedo at jpresedo@foodbanknyc.org for more details on sponsoring a shift.

  • WHAT TO WEAR: Please wear long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes. While the project is indoors, some areas of our Warehouse are not temperature-controlled so we recommend bringing extra layers to stay comfortable throughout your shift. We will have lockers available for volunteer belongings but space is limited so please leave valuables and large bags at home.

  • PROVIDED: Lunch will be provided for volunteers, along with MLK Day t-shirts!
