Street Petitioning Team - Barclays Center
Project Description: We are seeking volunteers to help inform New Yorkers about how they can contact their local elected officials to advocate for a NY State Budget that addresses food, housing, and childcare affordability!
Teams of volunteers will be stationed at key subway stops across the city, encouraging New Yorkers to sign a petition advocating for these NY State Budget priorities. We’ll provide you with a Food Bank advocacy t-shirt and hat, talking points, an iPad to access the online petition, and English/Spanish flyers with a QR code to the petition. Volunteers will also receive guidance on engaging safely and effectively with the public. One of Food Bank’s advocacy experts will on-site at your location to support you and ensure a positive experience.
Things to Consider:

Volunteers must be comfortable proactively engaging with the public and speaking about Food Bank’s work. Basic talking points will be provided.

There will not be storage available for personal belongings. We recommend traveling light and leaving valuables at home.

We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle.

Volunteers should be prepared to stand for the duration of the shift.

Bi-lingual volunteers helpful, but not required!
Dress Code:

Volunteers are expected to present a neat appearance and dress according to the requirements of the volunteer shift.

We ask that volunteers do not wear revealing attire such as muscle shirts, crop tops, “short shorts” or see-through clothing.

If you have any Food Bank branded attire, please wear it!

This project will take place outdoors rain or shine, so please wear weather-appropriate attire and comfortable footwear.

Our staff reserves the right to turn away or reassign volunteers not dressed appropriately for their shift.
Additional Info: You’ll receive a reminder email confirming your onsite lead and exact meeting spot in advance of your shift.
